The editors of C Magazine present STUDIO C, a store celebrating the very best in Californian design and creativity, at Fashion Island in Newport Beach.
This “California, Curated” concept is a first-of-its-kind store and accompanying e-commerce site, stocking only brands based in the state. Inside the 1,500-square-foot space you will find select seasonal pieces from the latest Rodarte, Rosetta Getty and Greg Lauren collections alongside exclusive hats from Nick Fouquet, Re/Done’s upcycled denim, Jacques Marie Mage sunglasses, statement necklaces from Lisa Eisner and diamond rings from Hoorsenbuhs.
The beauty counter boasts cult favorites from brands such as San Francisco-based Vintner’s Daughter, fragrances from Régime des Fleurs, serums and oils from Shiva Rose and CBD-infused serums from Vertly. Rounding out an assortment of home decor will be whimsical objets from the Haas Brothers, crystal orbs from Urban and the Mystic, books curated by Owl Bureau and candles from Flamingo Estate.
The store is designed by Brigette Romanek of Romanek Design Studio, a vaunted member of the AD100 list, whose projects include stores, restaurants and clubs including Eric Buterbaugh, Petit Trois, Delilah and The AllBright West Hollywood.
The setting within Fashion Island — Newport Beach’s prestigious alfresco shopping destination by the sea — is the ideal milieu in which to bring the concept to life. Of the ethereal, pastel-hued space, punctuated with custom marble pieces, accented in brass and wood, Romanek says: “The inspiration for the store is California itself and all the culture that exists here. Sometimes the light in our state is pink, sometimes it’s yellow and pale blues. It’s ever changing. ... It’s Cali dreaming.”
In 2020, C Magazine celebrates its 15th anniversary as the authority on California’s vast culturescape. With deep connections to the state’s top creative talents, the publication’s natural next step was to launch a store stocking the very same designers who inspire the readers of C Magazine on a daily basis. While staying true to C’s core values, this expansion of the brand represents a progressive and immersive way of bringing the magazine to life in a state already well-known for pioneering new directions. Furthermore, STUDIO C will be part store and part salon, as it will host regular customer events, talks and trunk shows to introduce brands in person and to explain the design process behind their products.
Jennifer Smith, C Publishing founder, editorial director and CEO, says: “As the global authority on all things relevant to California style and culture, we spend our days seeking out the best in our beloved state, which is unquestionably at the forefront of innovation in fashion, tech, art, design and beauty. It has put us in a unique position of understanding the market.”
