Driven to create premium eyewear at an accessible price point, brothers Justin and Jeremy Heit combined their respective backgrounds in art direction (Justin launched the skateboard magazine
Stance and worked at Nixon) and sales and marketing to form Raen with partner Jordan Percy, who brought his background in product design and development. The brand creates every frame by hand from single sheets of acetate, a high-quality plastic originating from the renewable resources of wood pulp and natural cotton fibers. The material retains its color while also affording flexibility and comfort. Integrated into the frames at the temples is a wire core to help reinforce shape and strength, while the lenses are all polarized for on-water comfort (many of the Oceanside-based company’s employees are avid surfers). The brand’s deep ties to the surf and skate community are at the heart of its creativity.
